With just 9 days to go until Santa and his reindeer arrive, a Dublin store is under fire for selling Easter eggs! JC’s Supermarket in Swords, one of the few large independent supermarkets left, put out the Easter Eggs this week, sparking a mixture of outrage, confusion, amusement and delight!

Dermot and Dave were doing their best Anton impersonation for #TradingPlaces on Today FM and they spoke to Barry Savage, one of the managers at JC’s Supermarket about the originis of what is a Swords/Dublin North Side tradition.

The move came under fire from Consumers Association of Ireland chief Dermott Jewell who told the Daily Mail it was “absolutely ridiculous; there can be no good, salient, sensible understandable reason for this whatsoever… it just beggers belief.”

EGGSELLENT: The eggs in their glory today (Wednesday 16 December)

As Barry reveals, it was started by accident a few years ago, when Cadbury delivered a couple of pallets of Easter Eggs by mistake. The shop was expecting Selection Boxes but instead of sending them back, they put the eggs on sale “for the craic” and customers went bananas for them.

INDEPENDENT AND PROUD: JC's in Swords.

As well at Pat Joyce on the West Coast, JC’s on the East Coast in independent and proud. They can count the Rubberbandits among their fans. Blindboy of the bandits now wears a JC’s Supermarket bag on his head! The ultimate compliment eh?
