The country is delirious with vitamin D as the sun waves regally at us from the sky. The heat sends us Irish into spasms of almost zombie like fervour for only 2 things: The nearest beergarden and an ice-cream.

We thought we’d take the opportunity to take a look back on some of the iced treats that smudged our faces and cooled our childhoods.

The Rolls Royce Of Ice Creams

This was essentially a thin layer of chocolate, covering chocolate ice cream which in itself was incredible...until...YOU DISCOVERED THE HARD CHOCOLATE INNER CORE! Feast was the Beast!

Swamped With Joy

Cooler than Kermit by a swampy mile, Fat Frog had the catchiest tune and the ice to back it up.

 The Italian Stallion

One of the greatest marketing campaigns of all time made Cornetto a must have...but only as a treat! I mean you could by 2 Choc Ice for the price of it as your dad would remind you!

Mr Freeze Pleeze!

Mr Freeze was a childhood super hero. He came in 4 flavours and was the perfect precursor to lipstick for many girls...and some boys!

The Stone Cold Classic

If we're honest, possibly the most underrated ice pick today but there was something reassuringly simple about a block of ice cream sandwiched between two crisp wafers. There was a technique to eating them with skilled practitioners never allowing a drop to hit the ground. The only downside was having to hear your parents go on about how much they cost when they were your age.

Posh Perfection

There was a time when Viennetta was the very epitome of class, style and in my house, Christmas. The crack of the the thin layer of chocolate as you slowly cut through to the soft vanilla ice cream could cause fainting. Her beauty was fragile though as if she was not treated carefully, one night in the freezer would render her into a sad frozen block...which you would still eat of course.

The Best Of Both Worlds

When you couldn't decide between a plane iced orange lolly or a bitta ice cream there was a glorious solution...OH HI SUPER SPLIT! Tangy iced orange on the outside soft creamy vanilla hiding beneath, this duo ruined many's the good shirt over the years.
