The mystery of the re-appearing election posters

For his weekly trawl through Ireland's local newspapers in search of the quirkier side of Irish life, Ronan Casey finally found some recorded evidence as to what happens to election posters after an election.

As he tells Anton Savage Show guest presenter Kevin McGahern they invariable line vans, insulate sheds, appear under floorboards, but in a magical twist in County Clare, posters belonging to a Fine Gael election candidate began to re-appear on lamp posts!

Ronan also had news of the artistic protest in Donegal, where a Letterkenny gallery would not allow paintings by Bernadette Hopkins to be exhibited because they contained nudity, so according to the Donegal Democrat, the disgruntled artist used a nude model for a piece of performance protest art... outside the gallery!

There was also news from the courts, including what not to do if you're pregnant on St Partrick's Day, the topless shoplifter and more besides.

And in a touching end to the weekly local newspaper slot, Ronan and Kevin spoke of a moving front page of the Western People newspaper, which was devoted to the late musician Conor Walsh who tragically died last week. It was a touch of class by the paper about a real touch of class of a man.

Rest in Peace Conor.
