Newly released figures show that just 4 in ten drink driving cases listed before the District Courts since January 2013 resulted in convictions.
The Irish Times reports the figures from the Department of Justice also show that for the first five months of this year the rate of conviction was just under 3 in ten. (28%)
It's in stark contrast to England and Wales, where 97 percent of all drink driving cases result in conviction.
Of those convicted, just 2 in ten had their licence numbers recorded in court for endorsement.
