A 5 year old boy has died in an accident at a farm in county Offaly.

The child was involved in an accident involving a tractor at the farm in Ferbane at around 3pm this afternoon.

His body has been removed to Tullamore General Hospital.

The Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority will carry out separate investigations into the incident.

His death brings to 17 the number of people who've died on Irish farms to date this year.

That number exceeds the total number of farm deaths for all of 2013.
