Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, says there has been a 65% reduction in high priority cases where children are waiting to be allocated a social
worker.
The agency's 2015 report says the overall number of children waiting for a social worker has been reduced by 21%.
The ISPCC has welcomed the progress made on the issue.
But it says over 6,700 children are still waiting for a social worker.
The child welfare charity says the number of high priority cases awaiting allocation stands at just under 1,000.
