69 million children under five will die from mostly preventable causes over the next 14 years.
That’s according to UNICEF, who say the world must focus more on disadvantaged children.
Unicef’s report; “The state of the world’s children” paints a bleak picture of the millions of children living, and dying in poverty.
Based on current predictions, around five million children under five will die each year until 2030 – mostly from preventable causes and a shocking three quarters of a billion girls will marry as children.
Unicef acknowledges that progress has been made in reducing infant mortality, but says lack of education, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa – is robbing children and communities of a future.
The NGO is calling on governments, donors and businesses to accelerate efforts to help these disadvantaged children.
