Revenue has seized more than 9.5 million contraband cigarettes in Dublin, Meath and Tipperary.
The combined value of the seizures which were made over the last week is €5 million euro.
7800 cigarettes branded “MG”, “Marlboro Gold” and “Royal Classic”, and 3.5 Kg of “Flandria” tobacco were discovered when 3 houses in Dublin’s inner city were searched as part of an operation targeting illegal trade in Moore Street.
Yesterday 39,000 MG brand cigarettes were found when Revenue Officers searched a house in Cashel in Co Tipperary.
6.6 million cigarettes were seized from a warehouse in Co. Meath yesterday. They were found in a container of “Royale Pacific” brand cigarettes which originated in Vietnam, and arrived into Dublin Port on Monday, from Rotterdam.
The smuggled cigarettes were described as “Shower room linen baskets” on the manifest.
A further 2.9 million "Jim" brand cigarettes were seized at Dublin Port - these too originated in Vietnam.
Revenue says the seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing enforcement operations targeting illegal importation, supply and sale of tobacco products.
