Plans for an all-Ireland forum to discuss the fallout from Brexit have fallen through - after being blocked by the North's First Minister.
Enda Kenny's department had floated the idea of setting up a new group to discuss the issues on both sides of the border.
But the plan wasn't even proposed at a joint meeting of ministers today, with unionists opposed to the very idea.
First Minister Arlene Foster, who was attending her first North-South Ministerial Council since taking over at the helm of Northern Irish government, says there are other ways to raise issues without needing an all-Ireland forum:
Kenny confirmed that the proposal had not even made it to the table - admitting: "No, it hasn't been proposed, and therefore hasn't been rejected.
"But it couldn't work if it didn't have buy-in from everybody."
Instead the Taoiseach will have to settle for the joint statement issued afterwards, where it was agreed the next council meeting in November would take stock of the situation.
