More and more people are donating blood - but supply levels remain low.
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service recruited more than 20,000 new donors in 2016 - a 40 per cent increase on 2015.
But the service still struggled to maintain an adequate supply with hospital demand increasing and several blood groups often only at 4 days supply.

In January of this year the donation criteria for men who have sex with men was changed.
