The Children's Ombudsman is calling for independent auditing of the power of Gardai to remove at-risk children from their families.
It's after two Roma children were removed from their families last year, which the Taoiseach later apologised for.
In her annual report, the Ombudsman also says her office should be given legislative powers to investigate the welfare of children in direct provision.
