Cinema dates and bowling alley visits are the most popular on Valentine's Day.
Spending data from AIB, found when compared with the other Tuesdays in February 2023, cinema spend increased on 86% on Tuesday 14th February, while spending in bowling alleys increased by 73%.
AIB analysed 62 million card transactions carried out by its customers in February 2023.
When it came to flowers, spending online peaked on the 13th of February. In-store spending on flowers peaked on the 14 February between 4pm and 5pm, as people bought flowers on their way home from work.
Average spending on flowers for Valentine's Day last year was down compared to the previous year, from €50 in 2022 to €45 in 2023.
Overall spending on Valentine's Day last year peaked at lunchtime between 1pm and 2pm.
Restaurant spending was up 58%, airports saw a 37% increase, bakery spending increased by 35%, while the amount spent in fast-food restaurants increased by 27%.
