The competition watchdog is examining a number of consumer protection issues around new bin charges.

It comes as the Environment Minister Simon Coveney is meeting waste companies later, to urge them not to unfairly increase fees - with some companies asking for a 200 per cent rise.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has confirmed to Today FM News that it's examining a number of consumer protection issues, in relation to the new pay by weight structure.
Meanwhile, the Social Protection Minister Leo Varadkar says it's apparent that waste companies are taking advantage of new laws.
