Coronavirus: 38 New Cases And No Further Deaths In Republic


There have been 38 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in the Republic.

No further deaths have been reported.

It brings the total number of cases to 26,065 since the pandemic began, while the number of deaths stands at 1,763.

32 of today's cases are located in Dublin or Kildare.

Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said: “Mass testing has now taken place in relation to a number of known outbreaks.

“We may be beginning to see more cases which we cannot link to outbreaks or close contacts. The National Public Health Emergency Team will continue to monitor this situation closely over the coming days.”

It comes after 85 new cases were confirmed yesterday evening, the highest number of new cases in over two months.

Of the 123 cases over the past two days, 84 cases are linked to known outbreaks or close contacts of other confirmed cases.

19 of the cases have been identified as community transmission, with 20 other cases remaining under investigation.

44 cases are located in Kildare, 33 in Dublin, 11 in Clare, 10 in Laois, eight in Limerick and the remaining 17 are located across 10 counties.

As of this morning, a total of six COVID-19 patients were being treated in the country's hospitals, with four patients in intensive care.
