The Cabinet sub-Committee on Covid-19 will meet today to discuss extending Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions into next month.

They will also look at proposals around travel, including five-day quarantine for people who arrive into the country without a negative PCR test.

It comes as 1,378 more people have tested positive for the virus, while 23 further deaths have been announced.

Meanwhile, 1,948 people with Covid-19 are in Irish hospitals this morning.

Last Monday there was a record number of people in hospitals with the virus on 2,020.

Today's figure shows a slight rise from the weekend's totals, while in the past 24 hours there were 63 admissions and 35 discharges associated with the virus.

Last night in ICU there were 221 people with the diseases receiving treatment.
