Enda Kenny has told a group of independent TDs he is prepared to speak to Fianna Fáil about securing its support for a minority government.
The comments came in a meeting with five rural TDs who are entering talks hoping to form a government "in the national interest".
Dr Michael Harty is one of the five - and says Enda Kenny confirmed to them that he will work with Fianna Fáil to ensure a minority government is stable.
The Clare TD says the Taoiseach also committed that a new government would do its work differently.
The acting Taoiseach is to hold a further round-table meeting with independents and the Greens tomorrow, hoping to move towards securing a second term in office.
But one of Enda Kenny's own ministers has also conceded that even a minority government led by her party will require Fianna Fáil's support.
