Enda Kenny's been given five days to outline a plan for quitting as Fine Gael leader - or face the sack from his backbenchers.
The Taoiseach will face a motion of no confidence unless he signals his exit plan before next Tuesday.
The threat comes despite the Dail last night narrowly supporting a motion of confidence in the Government.
Kenny told yesterday's weekly meeting of Fine Gael TDs and Senators that he wanted them to rally behind the Government ahead of that vote last night.
However, with that out of the way, Kenny has essentially been given until next week's meeting to outline an exit plan.
If he hasn't given signals before Tuesday, a motion will be put down to sack him at next Wednesday's meeting.
