The organisation that represents middle-ranking gardai has published a graphic photo of a member to show the dangers of front line policing.

Sergeant Dave Haughney sustained a serious eye-injury while on duty in Middleton in Co. Cork last year.

He's now lost 75 percent of the vision in his left eye.

The Association of Garda sergeants and Inspectors paid tribute to Sergeant Haughney, who has more than 20 yearsÂ’ experience, at their annual conference in Trim, Co. Meath.

Vice President of AGSI Willie Gleeson says Sergeant Haughney wanted to highlight the risks of front-line policing.
