Former swimming coach George Gibney has been jailed for 15 years and six months.

He was found guilty in July of 39 counts of indecent assault against four girls, and one count of attempted rape against one of them between 1971 and 1981.

Mr Justice Mícheál O'Higgins, said Gibney’s offending was ‘predatory in nature’ and a ‘gross abuse’ of his position.

The 78-year-old made no reaction when the sentence was handed down.
