The founder of Focus Ireland, Sr Stan, has died at the age of 86.
She passed away on Monday morning in Dublin at St Francis Hospice in Blanchardstown.
The Kerry native set up the homeless charity, Focus Point, 40 years ago.
The Taoiseach said he's deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sr Stanislaus Kennedy, describing her as "a passionate advocate for helping those in need".
Micheál Martin said she dedicated her life to helping those on the margins.
"I met her many times over the years and always admired her tireless advocacy and her ability to inform policy. She had great energy.
"My thoughts and prayers are with Sr Stan’s family and friends at this time".
Tánaiste, Simon Harris, said she made an 'immeasurable impact' on Irish society.
"She devoted her life to tirelessly advocating on behalf of the most vulnerable people in Irish society".
CEO of Focus Ireland, Pat Dennigan, said Sr. Stan’s legacy will live on.
"Stan’s fierce advocacy for social justice, and her deep empathy for those most marginalised in our society inspired generations of staff, volunteers and supporters.
"We will not see her like again that is for sure".
She joined the Religious Sisters of Charity in 1958 at he age of 18.
A statement the Order said Sr Stan, "worked tirelessly to support the homeless, immigrants, and those in disadvantaged communities throughout Ireland and beyond".
She served on the Council of State from 1997 to 2004 after she was appointed by then-President Mary McAleese.
