House buyers in Dublin spend nearly one third of their income on their monthly mortgage repayments.

The new figures from EBS show that houses are becoming less affordable due to the lack of supply and increasing prices.

The EBS - DKM Affordability index shows Couples purchasing for the first time in Dublin are spending over 27 per cent of their income on their mortgage

That's 2 per cent more than in 2016 and it's expected to reach 29 per cent by the end of the year.

They're still better off than singles purchasing for the first time -they're spending nearly a third of their monthly income making repayments.

Dublin, its commuter counties and Galway City are the least affordable locations, with couples needing 20-26 per cent of their income to fund a mortgage.

Longford, Offaly and Leitrim are the most affordable area with less than 11 per cent of a couple's disposable income required to meet repayments.

The average cost of a property for first time buyers is now nearly 246-thousand euro, with the average first time buyer mortgage nearly 197-thousand euro.
