HSE And Unions Move To Ensure Ambulance Service Is Safe

The HSE and Unions representing paramedics are ensuring the public that the fleet of 177 ambulances in operation today are safe.

3 separate investigations are underway following yesterday’s tragedy at Naas General Hospital in which a man in his 70s died.

The HSE’s Damien Mc Callien says it appears an oxygen tank played a part in yesterday’s tragedy.

A male patient in his 70s died and two paramedics were injured when an ambulance burst into flames outside the Emergency department of Naas General Hospital.

Paramedics around the country are carrying out extra checks on their equipment and SIPTU Health organiser Paul Bell says that he’s confident for the fleet of ambulances to run today, but that extra precautions must be taken.

3 separate investigations into the incident are underway by the Gardai, the Health and Safety Authority and the HSE.
