Up to 400 people have taken part in a demonstration through Cork city centre over the homeless crisis.

The march which took place at Grand Parade was led out by residents of Leeside apartments on Bachelors Quay.

They were involved in a long campaign against their eviction, after being severed notice by their landlord.

They claimed refurbishment works were needed on the property.

At the protest, demonstrators demanded government do more to tackle the crisis.

They called for the introduction of a nationwide ban on evictions into homelessness.

President of the Cork Council of Trade Unions, Barry Murphy, says so many people are affected by what's happening:

"We'll be encouraging all our members to use their vote to send a very strong message to government that we are not going to accept the status quo.

"Everyone is suffering, workers, unemployed people, ill people, people in direct provision. There's a generation lost."
