Ibrahim Halawa trial postponed for a 14th time

The Minister for Foreign Affairs says he's deeply disappointed - and concerned - at the latest delay in the Egyptian trial of Dublin man Ibrahim Halawa.

Charlie Flanagan says he'll be asking for more information on the review of technical evidence cited as the reason for delay today.

The Irish Ambassador to Egypt was in court for today's trial, which has now been put off until October 2nd.

It's the 14th time the Dubliner's court date has been deferred.

Ibrahim was 17 when he was arrested for taking part in a protest in Cairo in August 2013.

A Sinn Fein MEP is urging the Minister for Foreign Affairs to take action to ensure the Dubliner can return home.

Lynn Boylan says Charlie Flanagan should apply for a Presidential decree which would allow Ibrahim to come back to Ireland before a final ruling is made in his case.

The Australian Government applied for the Decree pre-sentencing for journalist Peter Greste, a former cell mate of Ibrahim's, and he was released and is now back home with his family.

The trial of Ibrahim Halawa and almost 500 other defendants has been put off until October 2nd.
