Here are some of the findings:
- There are almost 5 million people living in Ireland.
- The first results from Census 2016 have been published this morning - showing a population increase of 3.8 percent since April 2011.
- The average age of people in the country is 37.4 years, there are 53 thousand more females than males, and for the first time in an Irish census same sex marriages and civil partnerships were recorded.
- Almost 470 thousand people said they had no religion, an increase of over 73% since the last Census in 2011.
- 2 million households filled out the Census form on the evening of Sunday the 24th of April 2016.
