Irish drivers won't need a Green Card in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

The Motor Insurers' Bureau of Ireland says the UK Department of Transport has confirmed that discs will be accepted as proof of insurance.

It had been feared that cars crossing the border would not be covered if the UK crashed out on October 31st.

However, drivers from the North will not be covered under the scheme in the EU and they'll need a green card.

David Fitzgerald, CEO of the Motor Insurers' Bureau of Ireland, says it will be a relief to drivers: 'So this hugely simplifies things for the motorist, particularly those people crossing from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland every day, there are 30,000 motorists in that bracket. So, anybody who has a motor insurance disk on their vehicle will now be covered do it's a really super solution'.
