The Justice Minister is insisting Leo Varadkar didn’t personally gain by sharing details of a confidential doctors’ agreement.

Leo Varadkar has admitted he shared a version of the Irish Medical Organisation's contract deal with rival group, the National Association of General Practitioners. While he maintains he did not break the law, he says his actions were not best practice.

The Tanaiste will face questions in the Dáil on the issue tomorrow.

Louise O'Reilly, Sinn Féin's spokesperson on Enterprise, Trade and Employment, says  Leo Varadkar has to clarify what happened.

"It is a serious matter: the document that was shared with one of Leo Varadkar's mates was marked 'confidential, not for circulation.'

His Cabinet colleague Helen McEntee is staunchly defending him, saying anything he did was in the public interest.

"To suggest that there was an agenda here to try and get one up or for somebody to try and have some personal gain: the only intention here was that Government would get as many GPs to sign up to what was a very good deal that had been negotiated by the IMO."

"And the only people that that benefited were patients or the GPs themselves, and in fact taxpayers who were going to get a good deal from this."
