Keir Starmer's announced plans to resign as British Prime Minister.
Speaking in Downing Street this morning, he said a contest to replace him as UK Labour leader will be completed by the end of the summer, with nominations to open in July.
Pressure on Mr Starmer to quit grew last week when his rival Andy Burnham was re-elected to parliament, a move which cleared the path for him to mount a leadership challenge.
In his speech this morning he said that every decision he's taken has been about putting the country he loves first, describing his wife Victoria as his 'rock'.
Andy Burnham has since confirmed he'll run for Labour leader.
Mr Burnham, who's on his way to Westminster to be sworn in as the newly-elected MP for Makerfield, says the country expects 'stability' and 'seriousness'.
