Kenneth OÂ’Brien has been laid to rest after his funeral in Dublin earlier.

Mourners were urged to remember the 33 year oldÂ’s life, rather than the manner of his death.

A murder investigation is ongoing, following the discovery of his remains almost three weeks ago.

Juliette Gash reports;

Funeral Mass took place in St. Matthew's Ballyfermot.

In his homily, Father Joe McDonald, P.P. said

      "Kenneth should not be defined by his death but by his living. The quality of that living. Yes, his cruel death, and indeed the disrespectful aftermath made news, but the headlines that count, the real news, is the love that he is cherished within the hearts of all who love him."

From the perspective of the Gospel, just a few words on his death.

No one deserves such a death. His death offends our basic common humanity. From the point of view of what we as a faith community gathered here in St. Matthews's hold dear, his death goes against our core belief that every human life is sacred from womb to tomb, and of course, his death offends God."

A letter written by Kenneth's father Gerry was read out to mourners.

Mr O'Brien said the circumstances of Kenneth's death were more than any family should bear, but that they were extremely grateful to the outpouring of sympathy from family, friends and the wider community.

The family said they were relieved they were able to lay Kenneth to rest, knowing some families were not able to bury their loved ones.

They also paid tribute to their "Intelligent, handsome and loving son."

A garda investigation is ongoing, and any witnesses are asked to contact gardai.
