The Taoiseach has described Donald Trump's comments as "racist and dangerous".
The comments came in the Dáil this afternoon - where Enda Kenny said there were other candidates to vote for.
Kenny was being questioned about his recent visits to the United States, when Richard Boyd Barrett asked about whether Ireland would still allow Shannon Airport to be used if Trump were elected president.
The unexpected intervention could have serious implications for US-Irish relations if Trump takes power following November's presidential election.
