A row has erupted over what actually constitutes a casserole.
The question was posed by an Australian writer musing over the difference between a casserole and a stew.

Some claimed a casserole is like a curry without the spice, like a stew but more fancy, or it has to be baked to be a casserole.
One person asked whether pasta can be counted as a casserole?
@todayfm @HelenVaughan24 @IanDempsey @paulcollinstipp Is it a casserole usually oven cooked, stew you cook on your hob?

@HelenVaughan24 @TodayFMNews I always thought a stew was cooked in a saucepan and a casserole was cooked in the oven. No?

Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson weighed in to settle the debate.
