Investigations are underway into the technical difficulties on board an Aer Lingus plane that made an emergency landing in New York.

Flight EI 110 took off from JFK airport bound for Shannon but had to return to the ground at about half past seven yesterday evening.

Port Authority emergency services were on hand as it came into land as smoke was reported in part of the aircraft.

Aer Lingus says the 110 passengers on board will be accommodated on other flights.
