A cabinet minister has said it's "inappropriate" for council tenants to be threatened with eviction over any unpaid water bills.

Charlie Flanagan says it's "unhelpful" for councils to threaten tenants with eviction unless their water charges are paid.

His comments come as Irish Water plays down reports that it could extend the deadline for households to register with them.
