A landlord is to pay a total of €42,000 to three tenants after being found to have discriminated against them by not offering them access to housing assistance.
The Workplace Relations Commission has said it was difficult to understand the landlord's attitude towards the 'model tenants'.
The tenants - who lived separately but had their complaints considered together - complained to the WRC after being informed that the landlord did not wish to participate in the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) scheme.
According to the WRC judgement, the individual tenants will now receive compensation ranging from €13,365 to €14,977 each.
The decision is believed to be the first decision of its kind here.
