Ireland has taken in just 311 Syrian refugees in the year since the Government announced plans to accommodate 4,000.

A year ago today - a photograph of the body of three year old Alan Kurdi washed up on a Turkish beach made headlines around the world - and European leaders promised to tackle the refugee crisis.

But Alan Kurdi's father says his death has changed nothing.

Juliette Gash reports;
Abdullah Kurdi spoke to German newspaper Bild about his life since he lost his family. He was asked how he copes seeing the images of his son circulating once again.

"I can only look at them briefly. I can't bear it for longer. It was right that the media showed the photograph. People shouldn't look away when something horrible happens on the way to Europe. Every time I hear about another boat sinking, I start to cry."

He says this is how he wants to remember Alan and his brother Galip;
