Over 24,000 people have died on our roads since records began in 1959.

Sunday marks World Day of Remembrance for road victims, which will see ceremonies take place across the country.

The Road Safety Authority held a launch event today, calling for people to take extra care on the roads in the run up to the weekend.

Nicole Gernon reports:

The ceremonies will remember, not only the 24,000 who have died but also the 80-thousand seriously injured and the family and friends left behind.

133 people have died on our roads so far this year.

The RSA is asking people in the run up to Remembrance Day to slow down and drive responsibly

Full details of the events taking place around the country on Sunday are available on the RSA website.
