A car has crashed into an ambulance in Drogheda in what Gardaí are calling a hit and run incident.

Gardaí say the driver of the car left the scene after the car, a wine coloured Mondeo, struck the front of the ambulance on the Bridge of Peace at about 3.25 pm.

Both paramedics and the patient who were in the ambulance have been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital .

One paramedic is understood to have a head and knee injury, the other has a back injury.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who witnessed it, or knows where the driver went, to contact them at Drogheda Garda station.

They say they are following a definite line of enquiry.
