French prosecutors say a teacher, who claimed he was assaulted in a Paris school by a man shouting support for Islamic State, made up the story.

Earlier, officials said he was taken to hospital after being attacked by a man with a knife as he prepared for class.

Now the Paris prosecutor's office says he's being interviewed "with a view to establishing the reasons for this invented story".

The teacher claimed he was targeted in his classroom.

He was taken to hospital for treatment, and told police his "attacker" was armed with a box cutter knife and scissors.
