Prosecution In Ashling Murphy Murder Case Keen To Keep Trial Date

Jozef Puska's case was mentioned briefly before the Central Criminal Court today.

Mr Puska, of Lynally Grove in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, is due to stand trial in June for the murder of primary school teacher Ashling Murphy.

Ashling Murphy was killed while out for a run along the Grand Canal in Tullamore, Co Offaly on the afternoon of the 12th of January last year.

Jozef Puska was charged with her murder one week later and his trial date has been set for the 6th of June this year.

His case was mentioned briefly today before the Central Criminal Court, where legal aid was extended to his lawyers for a particular part of the case.

Prosecuting barrister, Anne-Marie Lawlor SC, told the court her side was keen to retain the trial date.

The judge was told there was likely to be one pre-trial issue, but defence barrister, Michael Bowman SC, said he didn’t expect that to take more than a day or two.

Mr Puska was not in court for today’s brief hearing.
