From today smartphones can be used to make contactless payments here in Ireland.

Customers of AIB and KBC who use Android devices will be able to hold their phones up to a card machines to make a purchase. 

Google, which developed the Android system, says the app has a multi-layered security approach.

More banks are expected to sign up in the coming months.
