Pilots at Ryanair have voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action.

They are now planning to hold a 24 hour strike next Thursday, July 12th, starting at 1am.

In a ballot conducted by the Irish Air Line Pilots' Association (IALPA), 94 ballots were in favour of action out of the 95 returned.

The association represents around 120 pilots based in Dublin.

Ryanair said it will contact customers next Tuesday if the strike looks set to go ahead.

The airline added: "Ryanair is disappointed by this strike notice which is unnecessary."

Last December, the airline agreed to recognise trade unions for the first time in order to avert strikes during the Christmas period.

However, pilots have been disappointed over the slow pace of talks with the airline.

In a statement, IALPA said it remained "available and willing to engage on the issues" with Ryanair.
