James Reilly is among a number of high-profile casualties, most notably from Fine Gael and Labour.
Fine Gael's Jimmy Deenihan has lost his seat in Kerry, while Emmett Stagg, Labour Kildare North TD for the past 20 years and party Chief Whip, was also eliminated.
Labour's Ged Nash lost out on the last seat in Louth to Fine Gael's Peter Fitzpatrick.
Sinn Féin's Padraig MacLochlainn was the major casualty for his party, losing the final Donegal seat to Independent Thomas Pringle.
Former Fine Gael Justice Minister Alan Shatter and Communications Minister Alex White of Labour both lost their seats in Dublin Rathdown. While nearby in Dublin Bay South, Labour Junior Minister Kevin Humpreys also lost out.

The bad news for Fine Gael continues in Cork North West where Áine Collins lost her seat
Other Labour TDs who have lost seats include Joanna Tuffy in Dublin Mid West and Joe Costello in Dublin Central.
Fianna Fáil's Colm Keaveney - who defected from Labour in the last Dáil - has lost his seat in Galway East.
Meanwhile Renua Ireland leader Lucinda Creighton lost her seat in Dublin Bay South.
