Former Justice Minister Alan Shatter has launched a High Court challenge with the aim of quashing findings of the Guerin Report.

Deputy Shatter resigned after reading the findings of the report - which cricitised his handling of allegations made by Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe.

Alan Shatter claims the report showed objective bias and an absence of fair procedures - and also alleges that Senior Counsel Sean Guerin showed "indecent haste" in compiling his report.

The former Minister is claiming his reputation was badly damaged as a result.

The Guerin report was sharply critical of Minister Shatter and  how the Department of Justice handled complaints of Garda malpractice by whistleblowers.

It outlined a litany of failures in how various state bodies and agencies looked into alleged Garda corruption and malpractice - and recommends a full commission of inquiry be set up to investigate.

It found that neither the force itself, nor the minister Alan Shatter, paid heed to the compalints made by Seargent Maurice Mc Cabe.

Speaking this lunchtime Jobs Minister Richard Bruton says the Government isn't uncomfortable with Alan Shatter's legal action.
