A status orange thunder warning is in place for the eastern part of the country.

Met Eireann says heavy downpours, hail and gusty winds can be expected in Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Waterford and Tipperary this morning.

The forecaster is warning that temporary surface flooding is possible for a time, combined with the risk of hail will lead to hazardous driving conditions in some areas.
