Michael Noonan has insisted Ireland will win its appeal to the Apple Tax ruling, but doesn't know what the appeal will cost. He was speaking as TDs gave their backing to plans to appeal.
After 10 hours of debate and almost two hours of voting, the Government voted in favour of the Apple Tax appeal passing by 93 votes to 36.
Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil, Labour and the Independent Alliance all joined forces to ensure the appeal was carried.
Before the vote, finance minister Michael Noonan insisted Ireland would win its appeal, because Apple's tax loophole was also open to other firms.
He admitted however that he couldn't possibly estimate what the state would spend on its legal appeal, it's spent €667,000 so far, and the eventual cost will run into the millions of euro.
