Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated and 700 members of the National Guard are being called up as Hurricane Harvey, the most powerful weather system to hit the US in almost 12 years, heads for Texas and Louisiana.
The storm is expected to bring 85 mile per hour winds and could be the biggest to hit the US mainland since Hurricane Katrina.
