The US Senate and House Republicans have agreed on a 1.1 billion dollar measure aimed at combating the Zika virus.

The move's been dismissed by the Senate's Democratic leader who says it's not a serious response to the threat.

It comes a day after Irish golfer Rory McIlroy announced he won't compete at the Rio Olympics because of fears about Zika.

The virus can cause deadly birth defects in babies.
