A study from HIQA indicates that e cigarettes could double smokers' chances of quitting, but it says it can't recommend them until more research is done.
The study into the effectiveness of 'smoking cessation aids' says the government should spend more on subsidising the products for those who want to quit.
HIQA says its good value for money with the government spends €40 million on anti smoking products, compared to €460 million per year on treating smoking related diseases.
