A treasure map drawn by republican leader Roger Casement has turned up at auction in England.
Casement was arrested off the Kerry coast in 1916, as he attempted to smuggle arms into Ireland for the rebels.
Casement drew the map for his British interrogators, marking the spot where he had buried gold and silver coins near Banna Strand in Co Kerry.
It was long thought the map had been destroyed. But it recently reappeared at auction in Cheltenham where it was bought for £7,000 by the Kerry Museum.
Casement was executed by the British in August 1916 for attempting to smuggle arms into Ireland.
His interrogators been told him that the treasure could not be found. But in fact the bounty was dug up and given to the Co Kerry RIC man who arrested him.
