We had some very interesting reactions from our listeners on this morning's show, as we dropped the bombshell that the CSO do not recognise words including a fada(s) as being any different to ones without. So Michael/Mícheál, or Seán/Sean would all sound the same (which we know they don't).
Seán Reidy from the Dermot and Dave team had a quick chat with the lads about the whole debacle, and he wasn't alone.
The people of Ireland got involved in their hundreds as they couldn't believe the news. Most of them have experienced some kind of confusion over their names, as the fada is vital.
One of the listeners who got in touch was Peter Kavanagh. Peter is a huge supporter of the Irish language and over the past while has created the 'Pop Up Gaeltacht', where people can learn to speak our native teanga in a relaxed atmosphere.
He gave us his opinion...
